Seeds of Change Program
Introducing the “Seeds of Change” Program
Cultivating hope for the people of Haiti ultimately comes down to transforming education, agriculture, and environmental conditions. Consider Haiti’s core programs for sustainable nutrition, clean water, and medical care for the children of Haiti have improved the lives of thousands of children and their families over the past two decades. However, we realize that sustainable ground-level impact starts by providing economic stability for our Haitian families.
This year, Consider Haiti started a job creation program called Seeds for Change. Funded through a grant by a Consider Haiti donor and matching funds, this program initially created four new jobs for four Haitian families.
We intentionally started small and will scale up as we continue to adapt the program to local conditions. Inspired by our program leader in Haiti, Eddy Prophete, this program is the initial seed money that will allow Seeds for Change to become a fully self-funded program in the future.
By purchasing black beans, corn, millet, peas, and butter bean seeds in bulk and reselling them in local markets, in just 6 months this program has already seen great success. Seeds for Change not only provides economic stability but also provides food security and perhaps even more importantly, dignity to families who have struggled to find sustainable jobs with unrelenting political unrest and poverty.
Continued funding for this program will be used to solidify and expand this program by expanding the goods sold and for staffing as necessary. We're excited about the possibilities for the Seeds for Change initiative.
